Welcome To Ostrander GP

This site has been created as a resource to further collector's
knowledge about John Deere GP tractors. The information present has been
contributed by a number of individuals with specialized interests and expertise.
That may be on production changes, wheels, carburetors, etc. We are
constantly looking for new items to add so feel free to email with questions,
suggestions, or articles. They will be sorted and added as time and
appropriateness allow. There will be a section of parts for sale, some GP
and some that pertain to other models.
Important to note, there will be another GP Rally. Dates are September
10-12, 2009.
This collection began with the purchase of a 1929 GP Standard in 1984.
From that it has expanded to approximately 30 GP's and implements.
Considerable time has been spent in the John Deere Archives researching these
tractors by combing the Engineering Decisions that accompanied the many changes
during the 7 year production run. The Decisions run the gamut from
notations about metal thicknesses of wheels to wholesale changes of internal
engine parts. They include serial numbers of two dozen tractors in 1934
that had factory installed oil bath air cleaners. There are even notations
stating which Champion sparkplug changes were made for tractors and why.
Many of those decisions show the constant pressure Deere was under to lower
costs in the tractor while increasing the power of this model. Changes
were made that saved a nickel per tractor.
